what I am wearing right now....

....and haven't taken off in days! It is just the perfect necklace to layer or wear alone. It makes me think of my friend Judy, so I dropped one off to her last time in was in Austin. Judy is a nurse and must wear scrubs to work like myself. It can be quite a statement to wear big earrings or a chunky necklace with scrubs. Kinda looks funny. Or at least it does on me.

Friday

fireworks in Vegas

On our latest adventure, OCD traveled to Sin City to spend the 4th of July in style! To start our holiday weekend, we attended the grand opening of Christian Auglier’s (Ed Hardy) new club at Treasure Island. Not my favorite hotel but how could you miss a grand opening event with Nick Cannon as guest DJ?! Sitting on our couch with a group of boring yet attractive Brazilian guys (guy: Nice blouse? us: What?!), we got an eyeful with the two poles set up on each side of our elevated VIP level. After a couple DJ sets by Nick Cannon, we had enough. We got to see Christian and even walked in with Mike Tyson, but all in all, the guest list was a bit too loose on dress code (see pole dancers).

So we decided our best bet was to hit up our favorite Vegas hot spot Pure. Last time we were at Pure, Chris Angel made matches disappear in Missy’s hand all night and I talked with Pam Anderson as DJ AM did his thang. I like DJ AM but I would say only 50% of the times I have heard him, he has been good. Only once he has totally wow’d me. I’ve heard much better local DJ’s in Austin and Dallas (DJ Lucy Wrubel) that could top his spins but whatever, not complaining.

Pure!

So onto Pure we went! We had our own table that overlooked the packed crowd as we mingled and requested songs to the DJ next to us. I could have danced all night!!! Oh wait, I think we did.

Missy and I at our table
The best part of the night involved rain! A group of guys up on the table level with us decided to make it rain and pulled out a stack of five hundred $1 bills! Missy got majority of the first stack and threw it out into the dancing crowd! Girls were fighting each other to get the bills! I think I saw one girl take off her stiletto and swing it at another oncoming money-grabber! I was so thankful to be throwing the money rather than collecting.
We tucked ourselves into bed around 6:30 just in time to see the sunrise from our 27th floor room. Such a fun night……

I don't do lines

The new iphone came out today. Yes, double the speed at half the price......aka: mass line forming outside every AT&T and Apple store in America (see above). Hope your blackberry doesn't break soon because you won't get in touch with an AT&T sales person for days.

Since my precious iphone broke weeks ago, I have had the inclination to jump into the iphone craze and potentially risk a long morning outside a strip shopping phone store. But no, I do not do lines. I do like that Apple is taking over the world. I am like an impatient child waiting for my birthday (Oct 8th if you are wondering) so I can have a reason to get the Apple air laptop. Actually, I break small electronics so I might stick with the Macbook. Regardless, I LOVE APPLE! But I do not love lines. Then again, there is one line I will wait in............

have a happy iphone / starbucks morning!

Well worth $28 million!

Two weeks ago (ive been busy!), we attended the $28 million dollar renovation party at the Stoneleigh Hotel. It was a fabulous night of drinks and “see and be seen”! The renovations included the 11th floor penthouse suite that had a 2nd level balcony with an amazing view of Dallas. Each room was unique and created a sense of exotic destination, most likely copied from the favorite Hotel Zaza via Gretchen Stofer Darby. A large “tiffany blue” sitting area reminded me of a room in the Frick museum in NYC at 5th Ave and 70th. For me, anything in Tiffany blue is classic chic. A another room was a striking orange ballroom (thanks to the lighting) that involved 10+ tables for "guests", a 5-tiered wedding cake, a set-up for a band and even a bride and groom dancing the night away. Next door, the bridal suite was luminous with a bathtub filled with red and pink rose petals.

Downstairs, the newly renovated spa felt slightly like a dungeon (it is below the hotel) but more so in a warm and secluded underground retreat than torture chambers and cold, wet floors. The front outdoor bar and lounge is a sure hit, as this was not my first time visiting. Yes, the martinis are $14 but so worth it to sit on the plush chairs with good friends. For this event, a party band was set up in the front outdoor area entertaining party-goers and the Stoneleigh Pea bar across the street. There were actually two bands set up for this event, the other being in the middle foyer of the hotel where the valet and red carpet was. I am not sure if that is a constant sitting area but it was a great people watching spot for this event. We ran into Jerry Jones among others. Ohhh did I mention the food? Chef David Bull (iron chef winner and former head boss guy at the Driskell Hotel in Austin) topped off the event with over 10 different tasting tables scattered around the hotel. Everything we tired was ridiculously good! I can’t wait to dine at his modern italian restaurant, Bolla. And of course, OCD was VIP!

i run

I run. (and jog. and walk.) I average about 15 to 20 miles a week, 90% being outdoors on the Katy Trail and Turtle Creek here in Dallas. I run to clear my head. I run because it makes me feel good. I run to get places. And, yes....I run because I am leaving for Hawaii in 36 days!

All in all, I run because I enjoy it and I do it simply for me. It is one of the few things I can be completely selfish and do. I splurge on fancy shoes, nike dri-fit shorts, yummy tanks and super comfy sport bras. I spend about $16 on one pair of socks! And that doesn't even include the "after attire"! My favorite...pink lotus and green dragon. Best to throw on before you leave for post-workout dinner.

But despite all those reasons, last night I found another reason to love running.

First of all, I am not one of those competitive runners who refuses to stop and walk when I am out of breath nor am I one of those runners who speeds up when someone is trying to pass me. I am usually too zoned-out to even notice!

Anyway, I was finishing mile 4 on a 6 mile jog when I revved up to pass a heavier set gentleman in an extremely sweaty red t-shirt. Once I was right next to this fella, he starts hauling! Arms swinging and pushing his hardest. My first reaction was to think this man was a total jerk! Then I thought to myself, SPEED UP! My competitive side totally kicked in. Soon, the man got far enough away from me to see. This man that had totally whipped me had a prosthetic leg.

Wow. What a kick in the chest. Not because I was beaten by a handicap, heavy-set, older man but that this handicap, heavy-set, older man was out there running. Just like me. Trying much harder than me. And enjoying himself, much more than me.

He slowed down in about 1/4 mile and stepped to the side when I noticed a huge smile appear on his face.

I realized he did not speed up to beat / be faster / or impress me but to merely beat the fact that he had titanium and plastic for a leg.

The only metal I was wearing was my small silk thread bracelet. I don't make many bracelets. Actually, this is my only one. But it comes in 14 different colors and can have gold or silver clasps. It is the only jewelry I wear running. Actually, I pretty much never take it off. And now, it will remind me of that heavy-set, older man who kicked my two legged butt!!

Double strand silk bracelet $10

Colors: red, pink, navy, royal blue, light blue, deep purple, light purple, yellow, forest green, kelly green, white, brown, black, and gray. Avail: gold or silver. Sizes: S, M, L
